Head south along the scenic coastal highway, passing through Timaru before reaching Oamaru, known for its charming Victorian architecture and colony of Little Blue Penguins. Along the way, stop at the famous Moeraki Boulders, a collection of large, spherical stones scattered along the beach. Continue to Dunedin, often called the Edinburgh of the South, where grand historic buildings reflect its Scottish heritage.

You might also want to walk up Baldwin Street, the world's steepest residential street. In the evening, take a tour of the 125-year-old Speight’s Brewery, finishing with a tasting of its world-class beers.
Start the day with a visit to Olveston Historic Home, a beautifully preserved mansion showcasing Dunedin’s heritage. Then, travel through the rolling green farmland of South Otago and Southland, crossing the Clutha River at Balclutha before continuing to Gore. From there, journey across open river plains to Te Anau, a scenic lakeside town and the gateway to Fiordland National Park.
In the evening, consider a cruise across Lake Te Anau to explore the fascinating limestone caves, where thousands of glow worms create a mesmerising display.

On arrival at Milford Sound, check in for a scenic cruise through the breathtaking 22km-long fiord, dominated by the iconic Mitre Peak. Along the way, admire sheer rock faces, cascading waterfalls, and the chance to spot seals, dolphins, or even Fiordland crested penguins.
The journey to Queenstown is filled with stunning high-country scenery and rivers famous for trout fishing. From Kingston, the road follows the edge of Lake Wakatipu, offering spectacular lakeside views all the way to Queenstown.
Arriving late morning gives plenty of time to experience the region, whether it’s a jet boat ride on the Kawarau or Shotover Rivers, or a relaxing afternoon exploring local shops and cafés. In the evening, take a ride on the Skyline Gondola for breathtaking views, followed by a sumptuous buffet dinner overlooking the lights of Queenstown.

The Crown Range Road offers the most direct route to Wanaka, with breathtaking views and the chance to spot cheeky kea along the way. This winding alpine pass is a more challenging drive, while the alternative route follows the Shotover River, Lake Dunstan, and the Clutha River, providing a more relaxed journey. Along the way, stop at the Gibbston Valley vineyards or watch thrill-seekers take the plunge at the Kawarau Bridge Bungy.
The afternoon is yours to relax and explore Wanaka, a lakeside town known for its stunning scenery and outdoor activities.

Spend the day at your own pace in Wanaka, a picturesque lakeside town with plenty to see and do. Take a jet boat ride, enjoy a scenic lake cruise, or simply stroll along the lakefront and soak in the views. For something unique, visit Puzzling World or explore the attractions at Wanaka Airport. If you're up for adventure, consider a day walk in Mt Aspiring National Park, where stunning alpine landscapes await. The day is yours to enjoy however you choose.
Travel through the breathtaking Mackenzie Country, where vast open plains are framed by the Southern Alps. Pass by glacial lakes and the town of Twizel, home to the world’s rarest wading bird, the Black Stilt. At Lake Tekapo, take in the stunning turquoise waters and consider a scenic flight over Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, where towering peaks and massive glaciers create a spectacular alpine landscape. Don't miss the Church of the Good Shepherd and the sheepdog statue, both offering perfect photo opportunities.
From Tekapo, follow the scenic route through Fairlie and Geraldine, passing Mt Somers and Darfield before arriving in Christchurch.
