Cycle Nelson Tasman's Great Taste Trail from Coast to Countryside

Explore Nelson Tasman's Great Taste Trail on a four-day self-guided cycling holiday combining coastal paths, vineyard country and historic railway routes. Starting in Nelson, follow the Waimea Estuary towards Rabbit Island before crossing the Māpua Ferry to Māpua Wharf. Continue through Ruby Bay and the Tasman countryside towards Motueka, with opportunities to visit local cafés, craft breweries and wineries along the way.

The route then turns inland, following the Motueka River before a shuttle connection takes you towards Kōhatu and Spooners Tunnel. Ride through the 1,352-metre former railway tunnel and continue to Wakefield before completing your circuit through Brightwater and Richmond. With premium eBikes, three nights of ensuite accommodation, luggage transfers and trail support included, you'll have the freedom to explore at your own pace while while we take care of the main arrangements.

The Great Taste Trail Self-Guided eBike Tour includes Grade 2 (Easy) and Grade 3 (Intermediate) cycling across coastal tracks, gravel paths, rolling hills and country roads. A reasonable level of fitness and confident bike handling are recommended, particularly for the longer cycling day between Motueka and Wakefield.

Day 2 includes a steady climb along Tasman View Road, while some inland sections require cycling on shared roads. A shuttle transfer is included on Day 3 to avoid the on-road section between Woodstock and Tapawera.

Premium eBikes assist with pedalling, but you should be comfortable riding for approximately four to five hours each day. Spooners Tunnel is unlit and can be cool and damp, so suitable lighting and careful bike handling are important.
