Today, your adventure begins in the magnificent 'City of Sails' - Auckland. This city is cradled on a volcanic isthmus, flanked by the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea. Your journey heads south-east, tracing the Pacific Coast Highway.
En route, you'll pass by the Seabird Coast and the Miranda Shoreline Centre. Here, you'll have a chance to pause and delve into fascinating exhibits, as well as witness the diverse migratory bird species that find sanctuary in this region.
The trip then carries on to the southern reaches of the Coromandel Peninsula. You'll travel through Paeroa, known for its famous NZ soft drink, “Lemon & Paeroa”, and experience the breathtaking scenery of the Karangahake Gorge. Your route will also take you through the gold-mining town of Waihi before reaching Whangamata in the southern Coromandel.
In Whangamata, expect a heart warming reception and outstanding hospitality, setting the scene for a two-night stay in this captivating area. Your accommodation in the Coromandel promises to be a memorable highlight.

Post-breakfast, let's set off to discover the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula. Your knowledgeable guide will unveil some of the most stunning spots in this enchanting area. A visit to Mount Paku Lookout is on the cards, where you have the option to trek to the top of this dormant volcano. At the summit, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Tairua and the gleaming white sands of Pauanui beach, nestled in a picturesque natural harbour.
Consider a trip to Whitianga, the Coromandel's primary hub, celebrated for its historical roots spanning pre- and post-European eras. This charming town boasts unique local shops, a scenic harbour, and serves as a gateway for deep-sea fishing in the bountiful waters nearby – definitely a splendid way to enjoy your day in the Coromandel.
Discover the wonders of Hahei Beach and Cathedral Cove, often hailed as some of the planet's most exquisite beaches. In fact, many of our visitors opt to spend the rest of their day soaking up the sun at one of these locations. You have choices galore: embark on a self-guided stroll, join a boat tour, or glide through the waters on a kayak from Hahei Beach to the iconic Cathedral Cove. Whether you're up for a walk, a paddle, or a leisurely boat ride, there's an option for everyone.
Close to Hahei lies Hot Water Beach, a unique and popular spot where you can dig your own natural spa bath in the sand – best experienced around two hours either side of low tide. But, even during high tide, this beach is a gem, often quieter as the crowds usually gather at low tide. Perhaps this quieter time might suit you better.
After a day of adventure and exploration, head back to your accommodation for some well-earned relaxation. Stay in the heart of the Coromandel and soak up the local ambience.

Opting for this choice means your day's schedule would include a 2-hour exploration of Hobbiton, followed by a 1 ½-hour journey to Rotorua for an afternoon arrival. Just a heads up, though - after completing the tour, our guide will have a 3-hour drive back to Auckland.
