Paddle Into Peace on the Whanganui River

The 5-Day Guided Whanganui River Tour offers an incredible opportunity to disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with nature. With no phones, traffic, or screens, it’s just you, your canoe, and the rhythmic flow of one of New Zealand’s most treasured rivers. You'll travel through a remote section of Whanganui National Park, much of which is only accessible by water.

The journey unfolds at a relaxed pace, giving you time to read, reflect, and enjoy the companionship of your fellow paddlers. Campsites along the river provide quiet spots to unwind, with native bush and birdlife all around. Whether you're travelling solo, as a couple, or with family, the tour is a true back-to-nature experience that stays with you long after you return home.

A Classic Kiwi Canoe Adventure

The tour generally begins from either Ohinepane or Whakahoro, depending on river levels, and includes all the gear, guides, and planning you need. Most guests stay in lodge accommodation in Ohakune the night before and after the trip, making for an easy and stress-free start. With secure parking and motel units on site, you’ll be well looked after from beginning to end.

This is a trip every New Zealander should do at least once—and it’s ideal for visiting travellers too. It’s more than just a canoe trip; it’s an unforgettable journey through time, history, and wilderness. If you're looking to truly unwind and explore Aotearoa’s quiet corners, this guided Whanganui River tour is the perfect pick.

CANCELLATION & REFUND

We are a small company with limited capacity, so once you confirm a trip with us, we often turn down other potential bookings. Our tours also incur costs at and immediately after the time of booking that we usually cannot recover. These costs only increase closer to the tour date. Therefore:

  • 60+ days prior to departure: $85 per person cancellation fee
  • 59 - 30 days prior to departure: $200 per person cancellation fee
  • 29 - 10 days prior to departure: 50% refund of the full ticket price
  • 9 days or less prior to departure: No refund.

Please note that this cancellation policy applies to your original trip booking date. If you postpone, the cancellation policy still applies to the original date.

Also, due to circumstances beyond our control, itineraries may change at any time. We will always try to notify clients as soon as possible if changes are made.

Note: No refunds for early departures or reduced guest numbers. Bookings are non-transferable. Please see more information on refunds and cancellations in Go New Zealand's terms and conditions.
