A Dive into the Legacy of HMNZS Canterbury

The HMNZS Canterbury rests proudly in Deep Water Cove, Bay of Islands, creating one of New Zealand’s most fascinating dive sites. Scuttled in 2007, this 113-metre frigate was transformed into a safe and sustainable artificial reef. Divers can now explore its towering structure and marine life, making every descent a journey through history.

Before it became a wreck dive, the HMNZS Canterbury served as a proud naval vessel, decommissioned in 2005. Purposefully cleaned and stripped of hazardous materials, she was sunk to offer a premier training site for divers. Today, she attracts both seasoned and beginner divers eager to experience her scale and unique atmosphere.
