The Ohakune Old Coach Road is a historic cycling and walking trail on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu and part of the Mountains to Sea cycle trail. The route winds through native bush, passing towering rimu trees and remnants of the region’s railway history, including the Taonui Railway Viaduct, Hapuawhenua Viaduct and original bridge piers at Haeremaere Stream.

Along the way, enjoy views across the Waimarino Plains towards Mount Ruapehu. Allow approximately 2.5–4 hours for the self-guided bike ride, depending on your pace and stops. The shuttle takes you to the trail at Horopito; riding time is separate from the approximately 30-minute transfer.
