Ridge-Top Vistas and Native Birdlife on the Queen Charlotte Track

Starting with a steady climb from Torea Bay, this walk leads to the ridge separating Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. The trail winds through regenerating forest, offering sweeping views of bays, coves, and the intricate coastline. Changing perspectives reveal the vivid blue waters of Queen Charlotte Sound and the green hues of Kenepuru Sound.

Native wildlife is never far away, with weka often seen foraging along the track and bellbirds calling through the trees. The ridge walk continues across rolling terrain, blending forest shade with stunning outlooks across the Sounds. Arriving at Punga Cove by afternoon, walkers can relax at the Boatshed Bar before the return boat departs.

Please note: You'll need a good level of fitness to reach Punga Cove in time for our boat at around 4:20 pm. You can buy meals and drinks at the Boatshed Bar, by the wharf.
