Christchurch – Your day begins as we leave the Garden City, heading south towards Mt Cook. Along the way, our experienced driver will highlight some of Christchurch’s key attractions and landmarks.
Canterbury Plains – As we journey through the vast Canterbury Plains, you’ll see sweeping farmland stretching to the horizon. This region is home to a diverse range of farming, including vineyards, crops, dairy, and livestock. It's a beautiful introduction to the New Zealand countryside.
Fairlie Bakehouse (10 mins) – Nestled in the Mackenzie region, Fairlie is a charming farming town, particularly stunning during autumn. We’ll stop here for a quick break at the renowned Fairlie Bakehouse, famous for its delicious pies. This is also where we’ll pick up your lunch to keep you energised for the adventures ahead.
Lake Tekapo / Church of the Good Shepherd (15 mins) – Next, we arrive at the breathtaking Lake Tekapo, a gem in the Mackenzie Basin. If you’re visiting at the right time, you’ll spot the vibrant lupins along the lake’s edge. We’ll head to the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd, a must-see for its picturesque setting and perfect for those Instagram-worthy shots.
Lake Pukaki (10 mins) – Known for its ever-changing shades of blue, this glacier-fed lake offers stunning views on clear days, with Mt Cook towering at the head of the lake. It’s a quick stop, but the panoramic scenery is truly unforgettable.
Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park (2.5 hrs) – Welcome to the majestic Aoraki/Mt Cook, New Zealand’s tallest mountain, named after explorer James Cook. Once here, you have the option to choose between two popular walks—the Hooker Valley Track or the Tasman Glacier Walk. If you’d prefer an aerial view, we can also arrange a thrilling helicopter flight over the stunning alpine landscape.
Hooker Valley Track (2.5-3 hrs) – This is one of New Zealand’s most renowned day walks, offering incredible views as you follow the trail alongside ice cliffs, all the way to a glacial lake with Mt Cook standing proudly at its edge. Listen closely, and you might even hear the ice shifting as you walk.
Tasman Glacier Track (2.5-3 hrs) – This track leads you through the remains of ancient glacier moraines, offering breathtaking views of the glacier, surrounding river, and lake. It’s a rewarding walk for nature lovers and photographers alike.
Mt Cook Information Centre (DOC) – If you prefer to take it easy, spend some time at the Mt Cook Information Centre. Here, you can learn more about the area’s rich history, ask questions about the park, and simply relax with a coffee while soaking up the incredible surroundings.
After your chosen adventure, our driver will pick you up for a departure at 2:30 pm.
Lake Tekapo (10 mins) – On the way back, we’ll stop once more at Lake Tekapo for any last-minute photos of the Church of the Good Shepherd and the stunning lake as evening approaches.
Christchurch – As we return to Christchurch, you’ll be filled with wonderful memories of a truly magical day. Though you may be tired, the beauty of the day’s experiences will stay with you. Don’t worry—additional stops for toilet breaks are included as needed!
