From Queenstown, the aircraft climbs north through Shotover Canyon and past Lochnagar towards Mount Aspiring. The route crosses some of the Southern Alps’ most isolated ice fields, many of which would otherwise require days of backcountry travel to reach.

The flight then crosses into Fiordland through a concentration of glaciers sometimes described as Glacier Alley before reaching Piopiotahi Milford Sound. There is no landing on this tour; the focus is entirely on aerial sightseeing, giving more flight time to the glaciers, alpine valleys, Milford Sound and the return route towards Queenstown.

The full names, ages and individual weights of all passengers are required when booking. Accurate weights are important for aircraft weight and balance calculations. A significant difference from the declared weight may result in a surcharge or the flight needing to be rescheduled.

Seat allocation is determined for safe aircraft loading. The aircraft uses a 1–2 seating layout, which means not every passenger is guaranteed a window seat. Those seats can still see through windows on both sides of the aircraft.

Minimum passenger numbers apply. If the required numbers are not reached, another departure time may be offered.

Flights are highly weather dependent. Check the weather status before leaving for the airport. If conditions prevent flying, the trip may be moved to another departure or fine-weather day. Flights cancelled because of unsuitable weather can be refunded.

Frequently asked questions

No. This is a scenic overflight only, so the aircraft does not land at Milford Sound or on a glacier. The absence of a landing allows the flight to spend its approximately one hour of airtime exploring a larger area of glaciers, alpine valleys and Fiordland scenery.

Scenic flights depend on suitable weather over Queenstown, the Southern Alps and Fiordland. If conditions prevent flying, the departure may be moved to another suitable time or day. If the flight cannot operate because of weather, cancellation charges do not apply and a refund can be arranged.
