South Island

Start: Invercargill
Travel Time: 3 hours

The Bluff Half Day Tour is a flexible three-hour sightseeing experience from Invercargill, covering Bluff’s coastal scenery, maritime history, wildlife and local landmarks. Pick-up is available from Invercargill accommodation or the airport, and the route is tailored around passenger interests, tides and opening hours, with drop-off in Bluff or return to Invercargill.

Bluff is only 28 km from Invercargill, but there is much more to see than can fit into a single fixed route. Depending on the group’s interests, stops may include Bluff Hill, the Maritime Museum, the Ship Graveyard, Ōmaui, historic sites, lagoon birdlife or a bush walk in Motupōhue Scenic Reserve.

The order of stops changes with the tides and attraction opening hours, so each departure can feel slightly different. You can also add a local food stop for blue cod and chips or seasonal Bluff oysters.

The tour is flexible rather than fixed. Let the booking team know whether you are most interested in history, wildlife, walking, coastal scenery or local food so these preferences can be taken into account.

If you choose a bush walk in Motupōhue Scenic Reserve, return times must be followed carefully so the rest of the tour stays on schedule.

Bluff oysters are seasonal and cannot be guaranteed year-round. Blue cod and chips may be available as an alternative local food stop.
