The Waiheke Te Ara Hura self-guided walk is a five-day private package following sections of the island’s approximately 100-kilometre trail network. It starts from Auckland and includes return ferry travel, four nights near Onetangi Beach, meals, maps and daily trail transfers. Walkers complete the route independently, without a guide.

The package suits confident independent walkers who can follow maps and complete consecutive walking days. Published sections range from easy to advanced, with some days lasting five to six and a half hours. Guests should be comfortable with hills, uneven tracks, coastal exposure and changing weather.

Self-guided page:
The Private Freedom package does not include a walking guide. Guests receive a personalised itinerary, maps and supporting information, while daily transfers and accommodation logistics are arranged in advance.

Guided page:
The guided package includes an expert local guide who provides route support and interpretation covering Waiheke’s landscapes, ecology, conservation and cultural history.

Return ferry travel between Auckland and Waiheke Island is included, together with transfers to the accommodation and transport to and from the walking route each day.

Four nights are spent in accommodation near Onetangi Beach. Guests return to the same base each evening rather than changing properties, with transport arranged between the accommodation and the relevant trail section.

Published daily distances range from approximately 6 to 20 kilometres, although the exact route may vary according to track conditions and the personalised itinerary. The longer days require good stamina, while the final section is shorter and less demanding.

The itinerary includes five consecutive walking days, with sections graded from easy to advanced. Walkers should be comfortable covering long distances, managing hills and walking for up to six hours or more on some days. Regular walking preparation is recommended before departure.
