Leave Auckland this morning and head north, passing through rolling farmland, forests, and the towns of Warkworth and Wellsford. Cross to the west coast and continue towards Omapere in the stunning Hokianga region. This evening, take part in the Footprints Waipoua Twilight Encounter, where local guides share Māori history and legends of the Waipoua Forest. Stand beneath towering kauri trees, including Tāne Mahuta, the majestic ‘Lord of the Forest’.

Today, travel from the west coast to the east, arriving in the stunning Bay of Islands, a region home to 144 islands. In Paihia, spend the afternoon exploring the charming village or visit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds to learn about New Zealand’s history. For a relaxing evening, consider Darryl’s Dinner Cruise, where you can enjoy a meal while cruising past Haruru Falls.

This morning, take the chance to cruise through the Bay of Islands, with a boat trip to the famous Hole in the Rock. Along the way, pass by picturesque islands and keep an eye out for dolphins, whales, and other marine life. The journey continues through the impressive Grand Cathedral Cave, adding to the adventure. A stopover at Urupukapuka Island offers time to explore scenic walking trails or relax on its pristine, pest-free beaches.
Leave Paihia and drive south towards Auckland, passing through scenic farmland and Northland townships. Stop in Auckland for a break or to visit attractions like the Sky Tower or Auckland Domain. Continue through the Hauraki Plains, then follow the coastal roads towards the Coromandel Peninsula. Arrive in Pauanui, a relaxed seaside town known for its golden beach, scenic walking trails, and peaceful harbour—perfect for unwinding after a day on the road.

Drive from Coromandel to Matamata (around 2.5 hours), passing through scenic countryside and rural Waikato towns. In Matamata, take a break to explore the town, grab a bite to eat, or, if you're interested, visit the Hobbiton Movie Set for a guided tour of the famous film location. After stretching your legs, continue on to Rotorua (about an hour’s drive), where geothermal attractions and cultural experiences await.

Today is for exploring Rotorua. We suggest a visit to Agrodome for a unique farm experience, ride the gondola up Mt Ngongotaha for extensive views over the city and lake or visit Te Puia with its geysers and bubbling mud pools. This evening enjoy a cultural performance at Te Pa Tu along with a delicious Hangi meal.
This morning head south to Taupo. We recommend stopping at the Huka Falls to watch the roaring waters rushing through the narrow gorge. Continue on to Napier where you have the afternoon to explore the Art Deco city centre. To see all the sites of interest and learn about the city’s rich history from an experienced guide, take a tour in a vintage car or a 1 ½ hour evening walk.

Bid farewell to Napier and head south to our nation’s capital city. You may like to stop for a tour of the Tui Brewery in Mangatainoka or visit one of the local wineries in the Martinborough wine region.
