3 Day Kayak and Walk Adventure in Abel Tasman

This flexible 3‑day guided adventure lets you choose how much walking and kayaking you’d like to do as you explore the spectacular Abel Tasman coast. With two nights in beachfront lodges—Meadowbank Homestead at Awaroa and Torrent Bay Lodge—you’ll enjoy the perfect blend of active days and cosy, comfortable nights. Most trips start with a scenic Vista Cruise from Kaiteriteri to Tōtaranui, before walking south through native forest and golden beaches.

On Day 2, swap hiking boots for paddles and kayak through the Tonga Island Marine Reserve, visiting seal colonies and sandy bays before arriving at Torrent Bay. Day 3 wraps up with a longer paddle past Adele Island and into Kaiteriteri, where your return journey awaits. Wednesday departures and low-season trips may run in reverse, starting with kayaking from Kaiteriteri. Each day is beautifully balanced with scenic highlights, expert guiding, and the freedom to go at your own pace.

Stay at Beachfront Eco Lodges

Your first night is spent at Meadowbank Homestead, a faithful recreation of the Wilson family’s original home set beside the stunning Awaroa Inlet. After your forest-to-beach walk from Tōtaranui, you’ll arrive to a warm welcome, a delicious dinner, and an ensuite room with views of the tidal estuary. The lodge’s charm and history add a personal touch to this remote escape in the heart of the national park.

Torrent Bay Lodge is your home for night two, tucked amongst a beachfront village and just steps from the sea. Here, you’ll unwind after a day on the water with a hot shower, local food, and time to relax in your private room. Both lodges offer all the comforts you need while staying immersed in nature, making this journey feel like a proper retreat rather than just a trek.
