Your adventure begins this evening in Auckland, where you’ll meet your tour leader and fellow travellers at the group’s accommodation. It’s the perfect chance to break the ice, share a meal, and start building connections in a relaxed setting.

After dinner, you might choose to explore Auckland’s lively nightlife with new friends, or take a quiet stroll to get a feel for the city. If you prefer, you can head back for an early night to recharge—tomorrow the journey really begins.

We wave goodbye to the hustle and bustle of Auckland and make our way towards the stunning Coromandel Peninsula – a true slice of paradise, packed with golden beaches and lush, mist-draped forests. The drive itself is a real treat, with the road hugging the coastline and offering ever-clearer views of the sparkling ocean around every bend. Make sure your camera’s handy – you won’t want to miss a shot!

Once we arrive in the Coromandel, there’s plenty of time for your guide to show you the best bits. One of the big highlights? Hot Water Beach. Every year, thousands flock here to dig their very own hot pools in the sand. If the tides are on our side, we’ll grab some buckets and spades and join in the fun!

This morning, we set off on a scenic walk along the cliffs to the iconic Cathedral Cove – you might recognise it from The Chronicles of Narnia. With its pristine beaches, dramatic rock arches and towering sea stacks, it’s no wonder this is one of the Coromandel’s most photographed gems.

Keen for something a bit different? You’ve got the option to hop in a kayak for a guided Cathedral Cove paddle. It’s a fantastic way to take in the coastal scenery from the water – and if luck’s on our side, we might even be joined by a curious dolphin or two!

Next, we’re off to Rotorua, with a fun stop along the way at Matamata – aka the world-famous Hobbiton Movie Set. This fully guided experience takes you through 12 magical acres of Middle-earth. Explore the hobbit holes, wander past the Mill, and wrap things up with a drink at the legendary Green Dragon Inn. A must for any Lord of the Rings fan!

As we reach Rotorua, you’ll quickly see why it’s a geothermal wonderland. Set on the North Island’s volcanic plateau, this place is alive with natural wonders – think bubbling mud pools, geysers, steaming lakes in wild colours, and even active volcanoes. It’s unlike anywhere else on earth, and a true highlight of any North Island adventure.

If you’re chasing an adrenaline buzz, look no further than the Kaituna River – home to the world’s highest commercially rafted waterfall. It’s an epic white-water experience that’s sure to get your heart pumping!

Feeling playful? Why not roll down a hill inside a giant inflatable ball – it’s a classic Rotorua thrill that’s as fun as it sounds.

Nature lovers can head into the ancient native forests for an unforgettable canopy tour. Glide along 600 metres of ziplines and swing bridges, all while learning about Aotearoa’s unique ecology and birdlife from passionate local guides.

For something more relaxing, jump into a kayak and cruise across the peaceful waters of Lake Rotoiti to reach the secluded Manupirua Springs Hot Pools – only accessible by boat. You’ll get to unwind in natural thermal waters while your guide fires up a classic Kiwi BBQ. Cap it off with a magical paddle at sunset, complete with a visit to glow worm caves tucked along the lake’s edge.

Today’s all about diving deeper into Aotearoa’s rich culture and natural wonders. We’ll visit Te Puia Māori Village, where you’ll discover the stories and traditions of the Māori people. Stand in awe before the mighty Pōhutu Geyser, watch bubbling mud pools in action, and meet the iconic – and endangered – kiwi bird up close in their nocturnal enclosure.

Later in the day, we make our way to Kohutapu Lodge in Murupara, where we’ll settle in for a truly memorable evening. You’ll have the chance to learn the haka, an expressive and powerful Māori tradition, and even weave your own flax dinner plate – a hands-on way to connect with local customs.

Dinner tonight is something special: a traditional hāngi meal. Slow-cooked in an earth oven, the meat and veggies come out tender, smoky, and packed with flavour – the kind of kai that warms your soul and fills your puku (belly) in the best way.

And here’s the heartwarming bit – your visit directly supports the local community, with most of the proceeds from tonight’s experience going back into Murupara.

It’s just a short hop to our next stop – the adventure-packed town of Taupō – but there’s loads to see along the way. Your awesome Haka Guide will point out all the highlights, including bubbling mud pools, the thunderous Huka Falls, and the impressive Aratiatia Dam surges. It’s a scenic journey with plenty of photo ops!

Once we arrive, you’ll see why Taupō is such a favourite. Set on the edge of New Zealand’s largest lake (yep, Lake Taupō is about the same size as Singapore!), the town boasts a gorgeous mountain backdrop and a seriously laid-back vibe.

This afternoon is all about choosing your own kind of thrill. Go big with a water-touch bungy jump, soar above the lake on an epic skydive, or keep things cruisy with a sunset boat ride – complete with panoramic views of the lake and surrounding peaks. Whatever you’re into, Taupō delivers the goods.

You’ve got a full day in Taupō – so the big question is: are you chasing peaceful lakeside vibes or heart-pumping adventure? Lucky for you, this place delivers both in spades.

For many, the ultimate Taupō experience is hiking – and just nearby is New Zealand’s most iconic day walk: the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. This 19.4 km trek takes you across a dramatic volcanic landscape, circling the majestic Mount Tongariro. It’s a solid physical challenge, but the reward is unbeatable – think vivid turquoise lakes, ancient lava flows, and sweeping views all the way to the coast.

If adrenaline is more your style, Taupō’s got you sorted. Skydive high above the lake for a serious rush, or take the plunge with a bungy jump over the mighty Waikato River – New Zealand’s longest.

Prefer to take things a little slower? Hop on a lake cruise to see the famous Māori rock carvings, wander one of the many lakeside trails, or treat yourself to a soak in the region’s natural geothermal pools. However you choose to spend your day, Taupō never disappoints.

It’s a long journey from Taupō to Wellington today, but trust us – the scenery makes every kilometre worth it.

We’ll cruise down the legendary Desert Road, cutting through the stark beauty of the Rangipo Desert. This windswept, barren landscape is shaped by poor soils and a harsh climate – and come winter, it’s often blanketed in snow. But the real showstoppers here are the volcanoes: Mount Ruapehu, Mount Tongariro, and the dramatic Mount Ngauruhoe – better known to Lord of the Rings fans as Mount Doom. Keep an eye out across the other side of the road for the rugged Kaimanawa Ranges, where wild horses still roam – a rare and special sight if you’re lucky.

We roll into Wellington, New Zealand’s cool little capital, by the afternoon. Film lovers might want to make a beeline for Wētā Workshop, the creative hub behind The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Avatar. There’s also Te Papa, Aotearoa’s incredible national museum – totally free to visit and packed with interactive exhibits.

Wellington’s compact and charming, with a buzzing waterfront perfect for a sunset stroll. You can hop on the historic cable car, check out the views from Mount Victoria, or browse the city’s eclectic mix of shops and galleries.

And when night falls? Wellington really turns it on. With a massive craft beer scene, cosy bars, and world-class eateries on every corner, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dinner and drinks.

Wellington doesn’t mess around when it comes to coffee – it’s a bit of a religion here! So why not start your day like a local with a freshly brewed cup from one of the city’s top-notch cafés?

Then we’re off, crossing from the North Island to the South Island via the spectacular Cook Strait ferry. Often ranked among the most beautiful ferry journeys in the world, this crossing offers jaw-dropping coastal views and a good chance of spotting dolphins, fur seals, and maybe even a whale or two if you’re lucky!

Once we arrive in the charming port town of Picton, it’s a scenic 2.5-hour drive down the coast to Kaikōura. This laid-back seaside gem is known for its striking black sand beaches, snow-capped mountain backdrops, and abundant marine life – including whales, seals, and dolphins that call the waters here home.

This morning’s all yours to soak up the coastal charm of Kaikōura. Whether you feel like strolling through the town, chilling on the beach, or ticking off a bucket list adventure, there’s something for everyone here. One of the top local experiences? Whale watching. Thanks to Kaikōura’s unique underwater geography, it’s one of the best spots in the world to see sperm whales, orcas, and even humpbacks. While some species migrate seasonally, others can be spotted here all year round – so keep your eyes peeled!

Later in the day, we hit the road and head south to Christchurch. Once we arrive, it’s time to explore the city’s buzzing food scene. We highly recommend a visit to Riverside Market – a lively hub full of tasty local eats, craft drinks, and sweet treats to round out your night.

Today’s all yours to explore Christchurch however you like! Take a stroll through the city’s beautiful Botanic Gardens, hop on the historic tram for a fun loop around town, or wander through the boutique shops and laneways. Whether you're into art, architecture, or just soaking up the relaxed vibe, there’s plenty to discover.

Keen to kick off the day with a sunrise adventure? Hike up to the summit of Mt John for jaw-dropping views over Lake Tekapo and the Southern Alps – it’s an unbeatable way to start the morning, and you’ll truly feel on top of the world.

From there, we hit the road and journey from Lake Tekapo to Queenstown – and trust us, this drive is a real stunner. We pass through the golden tussocklands of the Mackenzie Basin, a landscape so epic it featured in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. With the Southern Alps rising sharply in the distance, it’s one photo opportunity after another.

Before reaching Queenstown, we make a stop at the iconic Kawarau Bridge – the birthplace of commercial bungy jumping. Whether you’re up for the 43-metre plunge or prefer cheering on the brave souls who are, it’s a thrilling place to pause.

Then it’s on to Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand! With two nights here, there’s time to dive into everything this alpine gem has to offer – from bungy jumping and skydiving, to hiking, wine tasting, lake cruising and more. However you like to explore, Queenstown’s got something to match your style.

Today’s your day to dive into Queenstown – and with so many options, the hardest part is choosing what to do first! Fancy soaring above Lake Whakatipu? Go for a paraglide. Craving a rush? Swing through a canyon or leap out of a plane. If you’re more into nature, you can hike one of the area’s stunning trails or grab a bike and escape the crowds on a peaceful day mission.

Got time to spare? We highly recommend dedicating the day to visiting Milford Sound (Piopiotahi). Whether you take the scenic drive or opt to fly, the journey itself is absolutely jaw-dropping. Once you arrive, cruising beneath towering cliffs and thunderous waterfalls will show you exactly why this place is often called the "8th Wonder of the World."

As the sun sets, Queenstown turns up the energy. With over 40 bars and a huge range of eateries right in the town centre, your evening options are endless. It’s your guide’s day off, but they’ll still be around to give you some hot tips on where to eat, drink, or find a good party.

Wake up to one last magical morning in Queenstown – the perfect chance to squeeze in a final adventure or simply enjoy a relaxing wander around town. Whether you're ticking off a bucket list activity or grabbing a coffee by the lake, make the most of this alpine gem before we move on.

Later in the day, we take the scenic drive over the Crown Range towards Wanaka, just an hour away. On the way, we stop at the delightful Arrowtown – a charming gold rush village steeped in history and full of character. Its main street, lined with restored heritage buildings and hand-painted shopfronts, feels like stepping back in time. Picture horse-drawn carts rolling past 150 years ago! With its rich heritage and stunning seasonal colours, it’s no surprise Arrowtown has earned the title of New Zealand’s ‘Most Beautiful Small Town’ more than once.

From there, we journey through the Cardrona Valley – a picturesque route offering sweeping views of the Gibbston Valley wine region. As we arrive in Wanaka, you’ll be greeted by soaring mountain peaks and the glacial blue waters of Lake Wānaka. Often hailed as one of New Zealand’s most beautiful mountain towns, it’s a haven for hikers, bikers, and those seeking pure tranquillity. With a range of accessible trails for all fitness levels, it’s the ideal spot to slow down and soak in the serenity.

This morning in Wānaka is yours to enjoy however you please! Whether you’re up for some action or just want to take it slow, there’s something here for everyone. Keen for adventure? You could try your hand at a flying lesson, take a leap with a skydive, or cruise across Lake Wānaka to explore the predator-free Mou Waho Island on a guided nature walk. If you’re more into scenic strolls, your guide can recommend some of the area’s most stunning walking tracks – perfect for soaking in those mountain and lake views.

Then it’s time to hit the road towards Franz Josef – and this drive is something else. Many of our guides call it their absolute favourite in all of Aotearoa, and once you’re on it, you’ll see exactly why.

We’ll make a stop at one of our favourite lookout spots – either Lake Hāwea or Lake Wānaka – depending on the weather. From there, we head through the breathtaking Haast Pass, where waterfalls tumble down steep cliffs and native forest lines the road. With ever-changing scenery, from wild alpine landscapes to rugged West Coast views, this journey is not one to sleep through!

Along the way, your guide will pick some top spots for photo ops and leg stretches – short walks that really show off the region’s natural beauty.

We’ll roll into Franz Josef late afternoon or early evening, giving you time to chill, recharge, and get ready for another epic day of exploring tomorrow.

With Aoraki/Mount Cook – New Zealand’s tallest peak – shimmering in the distance, the setting around Franz Josef is nothing short of spectacular. Nestled within the UNESCO-listed Westland Tai Poutini National Park, this region is home to the iconic Franz Josef Glacier, located just 5 kilometres from town and surrounded by lush rainforest and dramatic peaks.

This part of the West Coast is known as Te Wāhi Pounamu – “the place of greenstone” – a name that reflects the area's rich Māori heritage and the presence of precious pounamu (greenstone or jade). Today, you’ll have a unique opportunity to carve your own pounamu pendant at a local gallery – a hands-on cultural experience and a one-of-a-kind keepsake.

Weather depending, your afternoon is wide open for glacier adventures. You could soar above the Southern Alps on a scenic heli-hike, paddle across a glacial lake, or explore the surrounding tracks in the National Park on foot. However you choose to experience Franz Josef, it’s guaranteed to leave an impression.

Later on, unwind with your fellow travellers – maybe with a bit of group karaoke… or simply sit back and enjoy the show!

After breakfast, we continue our journey up the wild and wonderful West Coast – a stretch of road often hailed as one of the most spectacular drives not just in New Zealand, but in the world. Think rugged coastline, crashing surf, and dense rainforest rolling down to meet the sea – it’s pure, untamed beauty at its best.

We’ll make a stop in Hokitika, a charming coastal town known for its greenstone (pounamu). Here, you’ll have a chance to visit a local greenstone workshop – a great spot to pick up authentic souvenirs for friends and family. If time allows, we might also pop into the National Kiwi Centre, where you’re guaranteed a rare glimpse of the elusive kiwi bird in their purpose-built nocturnal enclosure.

From there, we cross the island via the dramatic landscapes of Arthur’s Pass – a mountain road carved through the Southern Alps with plenty of jaw-dropping scenery along the way. By early evening, we arrive back in Christchurch.

It’s our final night together, so make it count! Whether you fancy a farewell dinner, a few drinks at a local bar, or just a chilled evening reminiscing with your travel mates, Christchurch has plenty of options to toast the end of an unforgettable adventure.
