Auckland to Rotorua via Waitomo & Hobbiton (One Way)

1. Auckland Kickoff – Your adventure begins in Auckland, New Zealand’s bustling hub. As you journey out of the city, your guide will introduce you to the day ahead and point out notable landmarks and scenic spots you’ll pass along the way.
2. Waikato Countryside – Heading south, you’ll drive through the lush Waikato region, the world’s most extensive farming expanse. Keep your camera handy—rolling hills, winding rivers, grazing animals, and distant mountains make for stunning views. We’ll pause in the charming town of Pirongia for a quick coffee break before moving on through Otorohanga, fondly known as New Zealand’s “Kiwiana capital.”
3. Waitomo Glowworm Caves – At your first major highlight, explore the Waitomo Caves with their ancient stalactites, stalagmites, and limestone columns. Then dive deeper for a magical glowworm boat ride along the subterranean river—an experience unique to New Zealand for over 120 years.
4. Big Bird Stop – On the way to Hobbiton, we’ll make a friendly stop at Big Bird’s sanctuary. Though there’s no time to enter the park, these sociable animals often come right up to the fence for a perfect photo moment.
5. Hobbiton Movie Set – Arrive at Hobbiton and enjoy some time to grab lunch before boarding the big green Hobbiton bus for a two-hour guided tour of this incredible 12-acre movie set. Walk through the Shire, visit 44 hobbit holes, explore beautiful gardens, uncover behind-the-scenes stories, and relax with a complimentary drink at The Green Dragon Inn.
6. Tirau’s Quirky Charm – Continuing to Rotorua, you’ll pass through Tirau, famously covered in whimsical corrugated iron art and buildings. It’s the perfect place for a grin—and your guide will point out the quirkiest highlights.
7. Rotorua Highlights – Your first day ends with a quick guided drive around Rotorua, seeing highlights like Lake Rotorua, the Rotorua Museum, Government Gardens, Rachel Spring (Whangapipiro), and the historic Blue Baths. Afterward, you'll be dropped off at your hotel for check-in. (Accommodation isn’t included.)
