Abseil Into Kahurangi’s Marble Maze

Discover a different side of Kahurangi National Park as you descend into Blue Creek’s narrow marble canyon. Towering walls, sculpted rock and glimpses of daylight overhead create a remarkable setting for an adventure focused on abseiling and exploration.

Your journey begins at Courthouse Flat with an uphill walk through native forest, taking approximately one hour. At the canyon entrance, your guides introduce the equipment and techniques before a series of shorter abseils helps you settle into the descent.

Follow the Canyon to Blue Creek Resurgence

Spend approximately four hours making your way through marble passages, negotiating rocky sections and descending on ropes with your guides. Some passages narrow enough to touch both walls bring the canyon’s scale into sharp focus, while moss-covered rock and filtered light add to its atmosphere.

Blue Creek is mostly dry, but pools along the route mean you should expect to get wet. The descent finishes at Blue Creek Resurgence, where clear water emerges from underground. A short riverside walk then brings you back to Courthouse Flat, completing an absorbing day of forest walking and canyon exploration.
