A Journey Through the Rainforest Canopy

The Hokitika Tree Top Walkway offers a unique way to experience the ancient West Coast rainforest. Elevated 20 metres above the ground, the steel platform winds 450 metres through towering Rimu and Kamahi trees. This easy-access walkway provides visitors of all ages the chance to enjoy the forest canopy from a new perspective.

For an extra thrill, the Mahinapua Springboard gently sways as you step out above the treetops. The views from here stretch across Lake Mahinapua, framed by lush green foliage. Adventurous souls can climb the 40-metre-high Hokitika Tower for a bird’s-eye view of the Southern Alps, Tasman Sea, and surrounding landscapes.

A Peaceful Escape to Hokitika Gorge

The Hokitika Gorge is famed for its striking turquoise waters and lush native bush. A swing bridge across the gorge allows you to fully appreciate the colour of the river and the tranquillity of its surroundings. It’s one of the West Coast’s most photographed locations and a must-see on any itinerary.

Alongside the gorge, local guides often share the story of Pounamu, New Zealand’s treasured greenstone. This gemstone is more than a souvenir—it is deeply significant in Māori culture, symbolising strength and connection. A visit to the Jade Factory in Hokitika provides the perfect chance to learn more about its history and cultural importance.
