What makes this rafting and fishing trip different?
- Travel the Rangitikei River by raft to reach remote fishing water
- Access pools and runs that are difficult to reach by road or on foot
- Stop and fish wherever you choose along the river journey
- Move between fishing locations by raft rather than returning to a vehicle
- Fish from the riverbank or suitable positions along the route
- Spend a full day combining rafting and fly fishing
- Up to three anglers per raft
- No previous rafting experience required
- Choose independent fishing or arrange a specialist fly fishing guide
- Extend the experience into a multi-day rafting, fishing and camping trip
The standard full-day trip includes:
- Raft transport downstream on the Rangitikei River
- Experienced raft guide
- Full picnic lunch
- Refreshments
- Lifejacket
- Wetsuit if required
- Helmet if required
What to bring:
- Your own fishing rod and tackle
- Valid fishing licence
- Suitable personal clothing
- Sunscreen
- Any specialist fishing equipment you prefer to use
Fishing equipment and licences are not included. A dedicated fly fishing guide is also not included in the standard fare, but one can be arranged separately at additional cost.
Your standard guide is an experienced raft guide rather than a specialist fishing guide. They navigate the Rangitikei River, take you between fishing locations and stop wherever you direct, but they do not provide fly casting instruction or choose fishing water on your behalf.
You should therefore be comfortable fishing independently and bring your own rod, tackle and valid fishing licence. If you would prefer instruction or local fishing guidance, a dedicated fly fishing guide can be arranged separately.
No previous rafting experience is required because you travel as a passenger while the guide handles the raft. Up to three anglers can join each raft.
Adventure activities, by their very nature, entail levels of risk to both person and property. We endeavour to minimise these as much as possible but cannot guarantee your safety. We do require that you choose the activity that is most appropriate for your fitness level and expectations. The higher the river grade (1 – 5) for river trips, with 5 being the highest, the greater the risk. Choosing correctly helps ensure both the safety of yourself and others.
