The ‘Tuscany of NZ’ Wine Tour is a 7–8 hour self-guided cycling day in Upper Moutere, covering around 15–40 km of rolling country roads between vineyards, orchards and rural food stops. A shuttle takes you from Nelson into the wine region and returns you around 5:00pm. The tour operates Wednesdays and Saturdays from October to April and includes bike hire, helmet, route planning, return transport and a wine tasting at Neudorf Winery. E-bikes are recommended for the hills.

Upper Moutere is one of New Zealand’s most picturesque wine regions, known for its rolling hills, olive groves and boutique cellar doors. Your day begins with a shuttle into this scenic countryside before you set off on a personalised cycling route crafted around your tastes and interests. Along the way you can visit favourite wineries such as Gravity, Heaphy, Neudorf and Moutere Hills, each offering exceptional wine and beautiful rural outlooks.

The area is rich with history, art and hidden gems, giving you plenty of opportunities to stop and explore. Visit a settler’s cottage, browse local galleries or wander the peaceful grounds of a Buddhist temple. Many travellers end their day with a hearty pub meal or fine dining at Moutere Hills before returning to Nelson with a few bottles of their newfound favourites.

E-bikes are available (extra cost) and are strongly recommended because of the rolling hills.

Additional wine tastings, meals, drinks and purchases at wineries or other stops are not included unless specifically confirmed in your booking.

The cycling route covers approximately 15–40 km, depending on your fitness, interests and preferred stops.

Riding is mainly on quiet country roads, rather than dedicated off-road cycle trails. Traffic is generally light, but you should be comfortable cycling on roads shared with vehicles.

Upper Moutere is hilly, so an e-bike is recommended, particularly if you plan to ride one of the longer routes or visit several wineries.

This is a self-guided tour, meaning you ride independently using the map and route information provided.

Guests taking part in wine tastings must meet New Zealand’s legal drinking age requirements and should carry suitable photo identification.

A minimum of two people is required.
