Riding from Nelson to Mapua
The ride follows an old rail route from Nelson to Richmond before joining the coastal sections of the Great Taste Trail. Riders pass through tranquil rural areas, vineyards and the Waimea Estuary, which is home to a variety of native birdlife. Scenic coastal paths and flat terrain make the ride comfortable and enjoyable.
A short ferry crossing delivers riders to Mapua Wharf, adding a unique element to the journey. The day finishes in Mapua village, where there is time to explore galleries, cafés, shops, a brewery and a wine bar. The relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal place to unwind after cycling.
