Journey Through the Raukumara Traverse Cycle Tour

This four-day cycling escape leads you through the ever-changing landscapes of the Raukūmara Ranges, starting on the scenic Dunes Trail. As you ride inland, the Motu Road Trail reveals lush native forest and gently rolling farmland steeped in history. It’s a journey that perfectly blends coastal charm with forest adventure.

The Pakihi Track takes things off-road with a wilder, more remote feel, winding through thick forest and across swing bridges. Then it’s on to the Rere Falls Trail, part of the Heartland Rides network, where waterfalls and natural rockslides offer refreshing stops. Every day uncovers new terrain, from serene rivers to towering trees.

Waterfalls, Wineries & Wild Backcountry

Soak up the views at Motu Falls and cool off at the thrilling Rere Rockslide before relaxing beside the peaceful Rere Falls. These natural highlights, set deep in the Gisborne backcountry, offer the perfect chance to slow down and reconnect with nature. There’s also plenty of time for scenic short walks and photo stops.

One night is spent at Eastwoodhill Arboretum, a peaceful sanctuary of exotic and native trees, perfect for a post-ride wander. As the tour winds towards vibrant Tairāwhiti Gisborne, vineyard visits and local brews add flavour to the experience. The Raukumara Traverse Cycle Tour is a true ride into the heart of Aotearoa.
