Self-Drive Sea Kayaking Safari: Paddle Pōhatu’s Wild Coast

The Self-Drive Sea Kayaking Safari takes you along the dramatic outer coast of Pōhatu Marine Reserve. Marvel at towering cliffs, reefs, and sea caves while paddling near rock stacks and the striking island arch. With Flea Bay Island as part of the journey, this adventure offers both scenery and excitement.

Wildlife encounters make the trip unforgettable, with chances to see penguins, seals, seabirds, and even Hector’s dolphins. No kayaking experience is needed, as experienced guides ensure your safety and enjoyment. A 4WD vehicle is required for access, adding to the sense of adventure as you navigate the rugged roads to the starting point.

Please note: To choose this option, you will need a 4WD vehicle and be comfortable driving on a steep, narrow gravel road that sometimes feels like a one-way lane close to the edge.
