Paddle the Abel Tasman Coast to Split Apple Rock

Leave Mārahau behind and settle into an easy paddling rhythm as your guide leads you along the edge of Abel Tasman National Park. From the water, the coastline takes on a completely different character: golden beaches meet forested headlands, granite formations rise beside sheltered bays, and sea caves and rocky shoreline features invite a closer look than you would get from land.

The destination is Split Apple Rock, one of the region’s most recognisable natural landmarks. Rather than simply seeing it from a lookout or passing boat, kayaking gives you the chance to approach at water level and appreciate the unusual formation within its coastal setting. Your guide adds context along the way with stories about the area's geology, marine environment and wildlife.

Slow Down for Beaches, Wildlife & Coastal Views

This experience is deliberately about more than covering distance. Breaks give you time to enjoy the surroundings, look for marine and birdlife and appreciate the quieter corners of the coastline. Keep an eye out for seals and the local shag colony while your guide helps reveal details of the environment that are easy to miss when travelling through the park more quickly.

A beach stop with a hot or cold drink and a slice adds to the relaxed pace, giving you time to take in Split Apple Rock and the surrounding Tasman Bay scenery before continuing the journey. With all kayaking equipment supplied and an experienced guide alongside you, the tour offers an accessible way to get onto the water and experience one of Abel Tasman’s signature coastal landscapes.
