Queenstown short stay packages start and finish in Queenstown, combining four to six nights’ accommodation with selected experiences and airport transfers or car hire. Allow five to seven calendar days, including arrival and departure, with three to five full days to explore Queenstown and nearby regions. Start dates are requested individually, subject to availability and seasonal schedules; skiing runs June–October. Choose a theme for families, couples, food and wine lovers, cyclists or adventure seekers.

Which Queenstown short stay package suits your holiday, and what will you do?

Choose your Queenstown escape around the experiences you most want to enjoy. Seven packages offer different combinations of sightseeing, food and wine, cycling, family activities, snow sports and outdoor adventure. Each has an arrival day, accommodation and a planned sequence of experiences, followed by departure from Queenstown.

The five-day options suit travellers seeking a compact break. Six days give the Must-Do and Adrenaline itineraries four full days between arrival and departure, while the seven-day Adventure Escape provides a longer stay with time around its four included activities. Use the comparison below to match the holiday to your interests before choosing accommodation and travel dates.

These durations and experiences follow the published daily programmes and revised Adventure inclusions.

Bungy jumping is included in the Adventure Escape; quad biking is an optional experience. The Family Escape includes the Kawarau Swing, a separate activity from bungy jumping. These distinctions help you choose the right combination of thrills. Included experiences can be exchanged, and stays shortened or extended, when arranging a tailored itinerary.

Where do the Queenstown packages go, and where will you stay?

Queenstown is the starting and finishing point for all seven packages. Its position beside Lake Whakatipu makes it a practical base for mountain activities, river adventures, sightseeing and evenings in town. Most itineraries keep you in the same Queenstown accommodation throughout, so you can unpack once and return after each excursion.

Food & Wine follows a different arrangement: three nights in Queenstown and a fourth night in Glenorchy. Its rental car connects the overnight stops and the Wānaka visit. This suits travellers who enjoy choosing their own scenic stops, with guided wine experiences arranged within the wider self-drive holiday. Allow time for the change of accommodation towards the end of the stay.

The Must-Do itinerary reaches beyond the Queenstown basin. Milford Sound takes you into Fiordland, while the Middle-earth tour explores Glenorchy, Paradise and Skippers Canyon. The standard itinerary keeps your overnight base in Queenstown, with each excursion returning you to your accommodation at the end of the day.

Cycling focuses on the trails and vineyard landscapes of Queenstown and Central Otago. Gibbston, Lake Dunstan, Bannockburn and Kawarau Gorge provide contrasting scenery across the three riding days. Transfers connect you with the booked routes, so overnight accommodation remains in Queenstown even when the day’s ride takes place farther away.

Adventure and Family concentrate on the Queenstown area, including Arrowtown and the Kawarau and Shotover rivers. Adrenaline adds a canyoning excursion into Mt Aspiring National Park. Ski takes you from town to The Remarkables and Coronet Peak, returning to Queenstown after your mountain days. Choose the destinations that matter most to you, then leave room for a lakefront walk or café stop between scheduled outings.

What accommodation, transport and experiences are included?

Each Queenstown short stay combines accommodation with the experiences listed for its theme. Transport arrangements differ, so choose the package that suits how you prefer to travel. Must-Do, Adventure, Cycling, Adrenaline, Ski and Family include arrival and departure airport transfers. Food & Wine includes a rental vehicle collected and returned at Queenstown Airport.

The standard arrangements include:

  • Four, five or six nights’ accommodation, according to the package duration.
  • Return Queenstown Airport transfers for the six packages using arranged transfers, or five-day hybrid SUV rental for Food & Wine.
  • Admission or participation in the experiences named as included in your chosen itinerary.
  • Bike hire, a helmet and the specified route support or transfers for included cycling experiences.
  • A two-day NZSki Superpass and the specified mountain shuttles in the Ski Escape.
  • Selected meals where expressly included in a tour or overnight stay.

These inclusions give you the framework for the holiday. Optional experiences are added when you tailor the booking, and alternatives replace an included activity when agreed. A helicopter flight, extra ski day or additional evening outing should therefore appear in your confirmed programme before you plan around it.

Accommodation choices also depend on the package and room selected. Think about how much time you will spend in the room, whether you want separate sleeping spaces, and how easily you would like to reach town between activities. Travellers arranging their own meals may prefer a room with suitable kitchen facilities; confirm those facilities for the particular room type.

Activity transport covers the journeys specified in the booking. Keep your accommodation pickup instructions and meeting points handy, particularly when different operators run consecutive days. Go New Zealand’s transfer and shuttle information can help when arranging additional transport around the package or linking your stay with onward travel.

When do the packages start and finish, and how many days do you need?

Allow the full advertised number of calendar days for your Queenstown short stay. Day 1 is the arrival day, and the final day is the departure day. Your flight times determine how much free time remains on those days. The nights and days between them provide the main period for sightseeing and booked activities.

Package groupArrival and departureStandard stayFull days between arrival and departure
Food & Wine, Cycling, Family and SkiArrive on Day 1; depart on Day 55 days, 4 nights3 full days
Must-Do and AdrenalineArrive on Day 1; depart on Day 66 days, 5 nights4 full days
AdventureArrive on Day 1; depart on Day 77 days, 6 nights5 full days

Request your preferred start date when enquiring. The package pages invite date requests rather than publishing a fixed weekly departure timetable. Accommodation availability and the schedules of included operators determine whether the complete itinerary can run on your chosen dates. Arrival and departure transfers are arranged around your confirmed travel details.

There is no single morning departure or evening return time for the whole package. Your booking confirms airport arrangements, accommodation and activity reservations across the stay. For Must-Do, the planned arrival-evening Walter Peak experience needs an arrival time that leaves enough room to reach town and check in beforehand.

Food & Wine finishes after the Glenorchy overnight stay. Allow approximately an hour to drive from Glenorchy to Queenstown Airport, then additional time for vehicle return and airline check-in. Choose your final flight with that journey in mind.

Travel to and from Queenstown sits around the booked stay, so add any overnight flight or onward journey time when planning leave. If Queenstown forms part of a longer holiday, explore South Island self-drive packages and arrange the connecting dates before confirming your short stay.

When do the packages run, and how does the season affect your choice?

Choose your travel period alongside your preferred package. Queenstown offers different experiences through the year, but each itinerary depends on the availability of its accommodation, transport and activity operators. A requested date is confirmed once those parts of the holiday can be arranged together.

Ski is the winter option, advertised for June to October. Actual mountain access depends on ski-field opening dates, snow conditions and daily operations. The package includes two mountain days within a five-day stay, leaving a day between them to explore town or arrange another experience. Browse New Zealand ski and snowboard holidays if you would like a different number of days on the snow.

Cycling lists September to May as its main season, with June to August available on request. Choose dates that suit your comfort with cooler riding conditions and the availability of your selected routes. Trail conditions can affect the day’s plans, so keep in touch with the operator before setting out.

Adrenaline needs particular attention to seasonal activities. Its package page lists Mt Aspiring canyoning from mid-November to April and Shotover rafting from November to April. Confirm the operating dates for both if you want the complete standard combination. Outside those periods, alternative adventures can be arranged to create a suitable itinerary.

The Queenstown Family, Must-Do, Food & Wine and Adventure Escapes are available year-round. Start dates are arranged around your travel plans, subject to accommodation and activity availability. Outdoor experiences remain subject to weather conditions.

Are Queenstown short stay packages suitable for families and different activity levels?

The Family Escape is the clearest starting point for an active family holiday. Its included cycling, Kawarau Swing and Shotover Jet experiences bring together trails, river scenery and thrills over three touring days. Staying in one Queenstown base also makes it easier to organise downtime and keep familiar routines between outings.

Suitability depends on every participant meeting the requirements of every included activity. Kawarau Swing has a minimum age of eight, while Shotover Jet has height requirements. The Arrowtown bike ride requires confidence riding a bike for several hours. Tell the team your children’s ages and riding experience so the itinerary can be matched to the whole family.

Must-Do may suit families who prefer scenic touring, but its included Middle-earth tour lists a minimum age of ten. A younger family can request an alternative, subject to availability. Consider how comfortably your children handle longer excursions when choosing a package that includes Milford Sound.

Adventure suits travellers who want a mix of active experiences. Its included Kawarau Bridge Bungy lists a minimum age of ten, with additional participant requirements. Adrenaline involves more sustained physical activity: Mt Aspiring canyoning requires fitness and swimming ability, and the included Shotover rafting lists a minimum age of thirteen. Meeting an age limit alone does not establish suitability for the whole itinerary.

Cycling is best for confident riders comfortable with the selected distances and terrain. Electric assistance helps with pedalling, while balance, braking and confidence on intermediate sections remain essential. Discuss a shorter or easier alternative if the standard riding programme exceeds anyone’s experience.

For mixed interests, start with the theme that most closely matches your group and request changes before booking. Explore Queenstown family tours and activities for alternatives that make the holiday enjoyable for everyone travelling together.
