Set Sail into Fiordland’s Wild Heart

The Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruises begins with a tranquil journey across Lake Manapouri, followed by a scenic coach ride over the lush Wilmot Pass. From the moment you step aboard the Fiordland Navigator, designed for both charm and comfort, you’ll know you’re in for something special. Cruising through the towering cliffs and still waters of this isolated fiord is like drifting through a dream.

As your guide shares stories of the landscape and its rare wildlife, you’ll have the chance to see dolphins, seals, and possibly even penguins up close. With fewer visitors than Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound offers a level of quiet intimacy that’s rare in today’s world. It’s a real New Zealand wilderness experience, perfect for those seeking space, peace, and something truly unforgettable.

Note: In May (many cruises) and August cruises have 2 nights in Doubtful Sound, giving more time for kayaking and exploration. September to April all overnight cruises are for 1 night.

Experience Nature by Day and Stars by Night

Anchoring in a remote cove gives you the freedom to choose your pace—kayak through calm waters, hop on a tender boat, or simply unwind on deck with a glass of local wine. For those brave enough, a swim in the chilly waters is a badge of honour. Then comes the evening’s reward: a delicious three-course dinner shared with fellow travellers under the glow of Fiordland's starlit skies.

As night falls, the upper deck becomes your front-row seat to one of the clearest night skies in New Zealand. Wake up to the sound of birdsong and the gentle lapping of water before enjoying a hearty breakfast. The cruise wraps up with more exploration of the fiord's hidden arms before you return to Manapouri, heart full and camera roll packed.
