Itinerary
1. Mt Cook Information Centre – Leaving Mt Cook Village, if the weather allows, we should get some amazing shots of the mountain. At 3724m, Aoraki/Mt Cook is New Zealand’s highest peak. However, you can see the mountain without any acclimatisation from the village, which is just 750m above sea level.
2. Lake Pukaki – As we travel along one of the most beautiful roads in the world, Lake Pukaki will come into view. It is one of the bluest lakes you will ever see, framed by Aoraki/Mt Cook and the Southern Alps. You’ll have the chance to take amazing photos and marvel at the scenery. It’s easy to see why many Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed nearby, and we will point them out for you.
3. High Country Salmon – Leaving Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park and heading back to Queenstown, we will stop at High Country Salmon, a local salmon farm where you can feed the fish and taste some of the freshest salmon in New Zealand.
4. Lindis Pass – As we climb in altitude, Lindis Pass offers amazing views down through the valleys. It is one of only three alpine roads through the otherwise impassable Southern Alps.
5. Jacksons Orchard – During the summer months, when the sun is still up as we get close to Queenstown, we often stop at Jacksons Orchard to try or buy some delicious local fruit or real fruit ice cream.
6. Kawarau Suspension Bridge – Nearing Queenstown, we pass through the stunning Kawarau Gorge, with its beautiful views, the Kawarau Suspension Bridge, and the famous Roaring Meg Lookout.
7. Queenstown – Sadly, the tour must come to an end as we enter Queenstown and say our goodbyes.
