Nelson Wine & Beer, Your Choice of Stops

Discover boutique wineries, craft breweries and local food across Nelson Tasman, with bus transport between the places you choose. Build your day around a cellar-door tasting, a brewery visit, a leisurely lunch or time exploring Māpua Wharf.

Choose from more than 20 stops along the route, including wineries, breweries, cafés and local attractions. Use the supplied map and timetable to plan around four or five visits during your day. You decide where to hop off and how to spend your time at each venue, allowing for the scheduled bus services and final return to Nelson.

This is a self-guided experience: the driver provides transport and local route information, while you arrange your venue visits. Tastings, meals, brewery tours and attraction entry are paid separately, and participating venues may offer discounts.

This is a self-guided experience, not a hosted wine tour. You choose where to get off and use the timetable to manage your own day.

The Nelson route covers a relatively large area, so it is best to plan 4–5 priority stops rather than trying to visit everything.

It is also broader than a traditional wine tour. Depending on your interests, you can include breweries, cafés, local food producers, Mapua Wharf or attractions alongside cellar doors.

Guests must be 18 or over to consume alcohol and should carry suitable photo identification.

Children can travel on a child ticket, but the bus cannot accommodate prams, wheelchairs or luggage.

  1. Plan your route before travelling: Nelson covers a large area, and the current timetable has one main return service, so choosing your priority stops in advance makes the day much easier.
  2. Pre-book lunch and selected tastings: Reservations are recommended for popular venues, particularly at weekends or when travelling with a larger group.
  3. Minimum numbers apply: The operator currently requires at least 6 full-paying passengers for the Nelson service to operate.
  4. No alcohol onboard: Alcohol purchased during the day must remain unopened while you are travelling.
  5. Cleaning Fee: A non-negotiable $250 fee applies if a passenger soils the bus.
  6. Purchased wine can be stored: The bus can hold bottles bought along the route so you do not need to carry them between stops.
  7. Allow for timetable changes: Traffic and passenger timing can affect the bus schedule, so avoid tightly timed bookings between venues.
  8. Venue costs are extra: Tastings, meals, tours and attraction charges are additional to the bus fare.
  9. Large groups should enquire first: Contact us before booking a larger party so transport and venue arrangements can be coordinated.
  10. Booking Locations: Bookings can be made online or at local visitor centres.

Frequently asked questions

Check your timetable for the next available service. The hop on hop off format gives you flexibility, but because Nelson covers a large geographic area, services are less frequent than a city sightseeing bus and the final return should be planned carefully.

You can include Mapua in your route, but check the timetable carefully because it is one of the more distant stops. Build the rest of your day around the available return service rather than leaving your transport planning until you arrive.

The route travels through the Nelson Tasman wine region, including areas around Richmond and Upper Moutere. These areas are known for boutique wineries producing varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and aromatic whites.
