The Northern Explorer Scenic Train Day Tour offers an unforgettable way to see the North Island’s ever-changing landscapes. From Auckland’s buzzing cityscape to Wellington’s charming capital streets, every moment on board tells a story of New Zealand’s wild heart. You’ll pass through green pastures, deep gorges, and beneath the towering peaks of the central volcanic plateau.

This iconic rail journey winds through the engineering marvel of the Raurimu Spiral, climbs across viaducts suspended above forested valleys, and cuts through rugged cliff-lined coastlines. As you cross Tongariro National Park, you’ll glide past the stunning trio of volcanoes – Tongariro, Ngauruhoe, and Ruapehu – all UNESCO World Heritage sites. It’s not just a train ride; it’s a moving window into New Zealand’s raw natural beauty and rich rail heritage.
