Duration: 2 days

Rail, River and Sky: The Expedition Forgotten World Journey

Remote railway lines, hand-cut tunnels, deep gorges and isolated settlements shape this two-day journey through the central North Island. More than 80 kilometres of rail-cart travel leads from Taumarunui to Whangamomona, following a historic railway once used by farming and railway communities across the Forgotten World.

The second day combines a scenic helicopter flight, weather permitting, with a 110-kilometre jet-boat journey on the Whanganui River and a guided forest walk to the Bridge to Nowhere. Meals, local guides and one night at the historic Whangamomona Hotel are included, creating a varied journey through railway heritage, native forest and Whanganui National Park.
