A Fast-Paced Journey Through Wild New Zealand

The 3-Day Guided Whanganui River Journey is a favourite among fit travellers and adventurous backpackers keen to experience the river's beauty without taking a full week off. You'll paddle 90 kilometres through remote gorges, native bush, and historical landmarks—all within three action-packed days. It’s the perfect way to soak up the stunning wilderness of Whanganui National Park if you're short on time.

This tour delivers more than just speed—it’s a full immersion in a landscape that's largely inaccessible by road. Each day brings new scenery, from ancient Māori settlements to eerie cliffside caves and riverside campsites surrounded by dense forest. With expert guides leading the way, you'll explore hidden spots and learn stories that bring the Whanganui River to life.

Ideal for Adventurers with Limited Time

The pace is faster, the distances longer, and the rewards are well worth the effort. Whether you’re paddling through horseshoe bends, tackling gentle rapids, or walking to the Bridge to Nowhere, every moment is filled with variety and challenge. The river's flow helps carry you forward, especially earlier in the season when water levels are higher.

Designed for those with moderate to good fitness, this guided journey provides support, safety, and flexibility along the way. You’ll camp in remote DOC sites, swim in refreshing river pools, and build confidence in your canoeing skills. It’s an unforgettable three-day experience that’s equal parts adventure, discovery, and escape.
