We will collect you from your accommodation in Picton this morning. Meet your Wilderness Guide and board the water taxi, travelling from Picton to Ship Cove through the beautiful bays and coves of Queen Charlotte Sound (about one hour). This remote historic and scenic reserve was visited by Captain Cook several times in the 1770s and is also a significant historical site for early Māori occupation.
Your guided walk along the Queen Charlotte Track starts at Ship Cove and ends at Endeavour Inlet. The bush consists mainly of stunning podocarp and beech forest, with punga ferns and other native New Zealand plants. This section is considered the best part of the Queen Charlotte Track.
You'll enjoy many beautiful views across Queen Charlotte Sound. Your knowledgeable local guide will share insights into the European and Māori history of the area and provide detailed information about the birds and plants you encounter.
We will provide a freshly packed lunch, and you can enjoy a cup of plunger coffee or tea along the trail while taking in the views of the Marlborough Sounds.
At the end of the walk, you can purchase a cold drink or warm beverage at the historic Furneaux Lodge while waiting for the water taxi. It's a great way to toast a fantastic day on the Queen Charlotte Track in the Marlborough Sounds.
