Hire a stand-up paddleboard for 55 minutes and paddle Queenstown Bay at your own pace. No previous SUP experience or high level of fitness is required, and staff provide a lifejacket, safety briefing and basic paddleboarding instruction before you head onto the water.

Stand-Up Paddleboarding on Queenstown Bay

Paddle across Queenstown Bay while taking in views of Lake Whakatipu and the surrounding mountains. You can keep moving, practise your balance and paddling skills, or slow down and use the time to take photos from the water.

The SUPs are designed to be easy to use, making this a good option for first-time paddlers as well as people with previous experience. Staff will show beginners the basics before letting them practise on the lake.

Frequently asked questions

Wear comfortable clothes or activewear suitable for being on the water. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat and a water bottle. Because you may get wet and Queenstown lake conditions can change quickly, it is also sensible to dress for the weather and bring an extra warm layer if needed.

The minimum age for the Queenstown stand-up paddleboard hire is 8 years. Paddle Queenstown lists the activity as suitable for guests aged 8 and over. All participants must follow staff instructions and wear the supplied lifejacket while they are on the water.

No high level of fitness is required for this 55-minute SUP hire. You can paddle around Queenstown Bay at a pace that suits you, taking breaks when needed. The activity can be as relaxed or active as you choose, making it suitable for a range of fitness levels.

No previous stand-up paddleboarding experience is required. Before you head onto Queenstown Bay, staff provide a short safety briefing and can show you the basic SUP techniques. You will then have time to practise your balance and paddling skills on the water at your own pace.
