Frequently asked questions

Pack comfortable cycling clothing, closed-toe footwear, sunglasses, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle and lightweight layers suitable for changing Central Otago weather. A small day bag is useful for personal items, while luggage relocation means you only need to carry what you require during the ride. It is also worth bringing a phone or camera to capture the scenery and checking the weather forecast before setting out.

Your main luggage is transferred between the overnight accommodation and the next destination, so you can cycle without carrying everything with you. The included luggage allowance is one bag per person weighing up to 15 kg, with storage available in Cromwell for excess luggage. It is still a good idea to keep essential items, valuables and anything you may need during the day in your cycling bags.

Central Otago is known for its dry climate and four distinct seasons, making it an appealing cycling destination across much of the year. Spring brings fresh growth and blossoms, summer offers long daylight hours, autumn is particularly scenic as the vineyards change colour, and cooler winter conditions create a different landscape. Weather can change quickly, so checking the forecast and dressing in layers is recommended regardless of the season.

Day 2 provides flexibility to explore Bannockburn and Felton Road according to your interests, so it is worth researching the wineries you would like to visit before the trip. Central Otago is particularly well known for its Pinot Noir, with many cellar doors offering tastings and insights into local winemaking. Planning your preferred stops in advance can help you make the most of your cycling time and ensure you allow enough time at each winery.
