Jetboat Thrills and a Scenic Kepler Track Walk

Start your day with a private jet boat ride on the Waiau River, where the dramatic scenery featured in Lord of the Rings comes to life. Glide past untouched wilderness and soak in the beauty of Lake Manapouri’s Shallow Bay, a tranquil spot with sandy shores and sparkling waters. With the exclusivity of a private boat, you’ll enjoy a tailored experience that feels both adventurous and intimate.

Once ashore, the Kepler Track invites you into a world of ancient red beech forest and lakeside views. The 6 km section is a gentle, scenic walk that suits most fitness levels, perfect for soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating insights about the region’s unique ecology and conservation efforts.

Highlights of the Guided Walk

The track leads you through landscapes where native birdlife thrives, offering moments of calm alongside the thrill of discovery. Every turn reveals a new perspective, from dappled forest light to wide lake vistas. It’s a relaxed way to connect with Fiordland’s natural beauty while learning from a passionate local guide.

Your journey ends at Rainbow Reach with a fun swing bridge crossing over the Waiau River, a playful finale to the day. For those keen to walk further, there’s the option to continue another 9.5 km along the river to the Control Gates. Whether you finish here or extend your hike, the Private Jetboat & Kepler Track Hike guarantees memories to treasure.

Difficulty Level:

This is one of the easier guided walks we offer in Fiordland National Park – perfect for anyone with low to moderate fitness. It’s also a fantastic alternative for those who prefer something more relaxed than the Kepler Heli Hike.

Need to Know:

The walk is 6 km (4 miles) and typically takes 2 to 2.5 hours. Weather in Fiordland can be unpredictable – we operate in most conditions, so please come well-prepared. Guests who aren’t suitably equipped may not be able to take part.

What to Bring

To make the most of your experience, please come prepared with the following essentials:

  • Comfortable walking shoes or boots
  • A waterproof jacket
  • Warm clothing (including a thermal hat and gloves)
  • Sunhat and sunscreen
  • Lunch (unless you’ve pre-ordered with us)
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Daypack
  • Insect repellent

Please avoid jeans or casual streetwear – outdoor activewear is best for comfort and weather protection. Walking poles are optional and can be provided if requested in advance.

Food & Refreshments

We recommend bringing a filled, reusable water bottle to keep you hydrated throughout the hike. If you’d prefer not to organise your own food, a delicious picnic lunch can be pre-ordered for an additional charge. Got any dietary requirements? Just let us know in advance so we can make sure you’re well catered for. Of course, you're also more than welcome to pack your own lunch and hiking snacks for the day.

  • 6 days or less: Non Refundable
