Abel Tasman Sail, Seals & Walk Day Tour

This full-day Abel Tasman adventure departs Mārahau on one morning transfer to Kaiteriteri, then sails to Anchorage before a self-guided 12 km walk back to Mārahau. Pick-up is at 8:30am, with 2.5 hours sailing, 3–4 hours walking and around eight hours overall. Operating October–mid-April, it includes the sailing tour, transfer, lunch, tea and coffee, and suits travellers wanting an active mix of coastal scenery, wildlife and independent walking.

Sail Past Golden Bays and New Zealand Fur Seals

Begin with an easy morning transfer from Mārahau to Kaiteriteri, where your sailing catamaran departs for a relaxed journey along the Abel Tasman coast. From the water, watch golden beaches, forested headlands and distinctive granite formations unfold while your skipper shares stories about the coastline and its marine environment. The route also passes Split Apple Rock, one of the region’s most recognisable natural landmarks.

Keep watch for New Zealand fur seals resting around the rocky shoreline as you continue towards Anchorage. With around 2.5 hours under sail, there is time to enjoy the scenery rather than simply travel from one point to another. Arriving at Anchorage around 12:30pm, enjoy lunch and some time beside the beach before swapping the catamaran for walking shoes and beginning the independent journey back to Mārahau.
