Entry requirements for travellers arriving from Australia depend on your specific citizenship and residency status.
Australian Citizens
- Visa: Not required.
- NZeTA: Not required.
- IVL Cost: Exempt (Free).
- Rule: You can enter New Zealand using your Australian passport and stay as long as you like.
Australian Permanent Residents
- Visa: Not required.
- NZeTA: Required (NZD $17–$23).
- IVL Cost: Exempt (You do not pay the $100 levy).
Other Nationalities Travelling from Australia
If you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident, normal entry rules apply:
- Visa Waiver Citizens (e.g. UK, USA): Must hold an NZeTA and pay the $100 IVL.
- All Others: Must hold a valid New Zealand Visitor Visa.
Note for Chinese & Pacific Island Nationals: You may be exempt from the Visitor Visa if you travel directly from Australia with an eligible Australian visa. You may only need an NZeTA.
