If you hold a current and valid overseas driver licence, you may drive only the vehicle types covered by that licence and must follow all applicable conditions. A full overseas car licence is generally equivalent to a New Zealand class 1 licence, allowing you to drive a car or light vehicle with a gross laden or combined weight of up to 6,000kg.
Additional restrictions may apply to learner, restricted or provisional licences, and some rental companies may not accept them.
