LOGISTICS

  • Check-In Time: 9:30 am at the river; transport from Rotorua departs at 8:30 am.
  • Duration: Allow 5 hours (leaving from Rotorua) or 3 hours (meeting at the river), with 2 hours on the water.
  • Availability: Operates 26 days a year on select Sundays from spring to autumn due to dam release.
  • Location: Wairoa River, just outside Tauranga at 1376 State Highway 29; 15 minutes from Tauranga or 50 minutes from Rotorua.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • FITNESS. Participants must be fit and healthy with basic swimming skills.
  • Suitability: Not suitable for pregnant women or those with heart conditions.
  • Reservations: Due to limited availability, early booking is essential.
  • What to Bring: Swimwear, shorts, towel, and a sense of adventure. GoPro friendly; chest harness recommended.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Health & Safety: While all precautionary measures are taken, river rafting involves risks. Rafts can capsize, and participants may fall out in fast-flowing water. Kaituna Cascades cannot guarantee safety.
  • Solo Travellers: Solo adventurers are welcome and can join a group of up to 6 others.
  • Rafting in the Rain: Ideal wet-weather activity as flows are regulated.
  • Capturing the Adventure: Professional photographers available; GoPro friendly with rental chest mounts. Digital photos of the tour can be purchased.
  • Just Watching?: Stretch your legs on the Okere Falls Scenic Reserve walking track, with multiple viewing platforms of the river and waterfalls.
