Difficulty and Tour Information

Please note that the Queen Charlotte Track is a stunning but physically demanding and technical ride, best suited to experienced single-track mountain bikers.

While classified as an ‘easier tramping track’ for walkers, the track is rated intermediate for bikes. There are no sections suitable for novice or beginner riders (grade 1–2).

  • 62% grade 3 (intermediate)
  • 28% grade 4 (advanced)
  • 10% grade 5 (expert)

Expect loose rocks, tree roots, branch debris, and rutty climbs and descents throughout. Most riders will need to dismount and push in places. After heavy rain, the clay-based surface becomes very slippery, with reduced traction and heavy mud.
