Itinerary
Depart Dunedin Begin your journey with a morning pickup from central Dunedin and follow the scenic southern coastline. As the city gives way to open countryside, your guide shares stories of the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
Nugget Point Lighthouse Enjoy a short walk to Nugget Point Lighthouse, where dramatic sea cliffs overlook the wild southern ocean. Look for fur seals on the rocks below and seabirds circling the “Nuggets” — a truly iconic coastal view.
Purakaunui Falls Take a peaceful forest walk to one of New Zealand’s most photographed waterfalls. Surrounded by lush native bush, Purakaunui Falls is a serene and timeless spot perfect for a photo stop.
Papatowai – Lunch & The Lost Gypsy Caravan Stop for lunch in Papatowai, a quiet village nestled between forest and sea. Explore the imaginative Lost Gypsy Caravan, filled with quirky kinetic art and clever creations that capture the spirit of the Catlins.
Curio Bay – Prehistoric Forest & Wildlife Walk across the fossilised remains of an ancient forest at Curio Bay, visible at low tide. Keep an eye out for rare yellow-eyed penguins and Hector’s dolphins that frequent the area. If tides allow, we may instead visit the spectacular Cathedral Caves.
Invercargill – Gateway to the South Take a short break in Invercargill, a welcoming southern city where guests may choose to begin or end their journey. Stretch your legs before the final leg to Te Anau.
Arrive in Te Anau Arrive in Te Anau in the early evening and settle into the town’s peaceful lakeside setting. Surrounded by Fiordland’s dramatic peaks, it’s the perfect place to relax after a day of discovery along the southern coast.
