South Island

Start: Main Queenstown Jetty
Location: Queenstown
Duration: 90

The Million Dollar Cruise Queenstown is a 90-minute scenic cruise on Lake Wakatipu, departing from the Main Queenstown Jetty in the centre of town. Cruise aboard the classic 1975 Fiordlander towards the Remarkables, through Frankton Arm and towards Kawarau Falls Dam, with live commentary from your skipper throughout. Departures run two or three times daily year-round, depending on the season. Warm blankets and children’s activities are included, while drinks and light snacks can be purchased onboard. It suits families, couples, solo travellers and visitors wanting an easy Queenstown sightseeing experience without taking up half the day.

See a different side of Queenstown from Lake Wakatipu

Queenstown’s waterfront is impressive from shore, but the Million Dollar Cruise gives you a different perspective on the town, mountains and lakeside neighbourhoods. The cruise crosses Lake Wakatipu towards the Remarkables, then follows Frankton Arm, a quieter stretch of the lake lined with residential neighbourhoods, wooded shoreline and striking mountain views. From there, continue towards Kawarau Falls Dam, where Lake Wakatipu flows into the Kawarau River.

Along the way, your skipper shares entertaining stories about Queenstown, the lake, local history and some of the characters connected with the area. You may also see the distinctive willow islands, historic buildings and impressive waterfront homes.

The Fiordlander is much smaller than Queenstown’s large sightseeing vessels, giving the cruise a relaxed, personal feel. You can move around for photographs, head towards the bow for uninterrupted views or settle in with a drink while the scenery passes by.
