Scenic Alpine Journey to Arthur’s Pass and Castle Hill

The day begins with a private pickup from Christchurch or Lyttelton before heading west through the Canterbury Plains. After a bakery stop in Darfield and a light-hearted photo with Springfield’s giant pink doughnut, you’ll continue to Lake Lyndon for morning tea beside its peaceful alpine waters. From there, the road climbs over Porters Pass, revealing sweeping views across the rugged Southern Alps.

In Arthur’s Pass village, your guide will tailor the visit to your interests, whether that’s a short stroll, birdwatching, or the optional walk to Devil’s Punchbowl Waterfall, where water plunges dramatically down 131 metres of cliff face. After a picnic lunch, the adventure continues to Castle Hill/Kura Tāwhiti, a mystical landscape of towering limestone boulders and rich Māori heritage. The return journey to Christchurch offers more alpine views and a relaxed end to a day filled with scenery, culture, and memorable moments.
