Sea Kayaking Adventure in Lyttelton Harbour and Quail Island

Your day begins in Lyttelton, where you’ll meet your guide and head to the water’s edge for a sea kayaking adventure. After a short safety briefing, it’s time to glide into the calm harbour waters, learning how to steer while surrounded by dramatic volcanic cliffs. Along the way, secret bays, seabirds, and even the remains of an old ship’s graveyard bring plenty of variety to the paddle.

The highlight of the day is Quail Island, rich with stories from its past as a quarantine station and Antarctic training site. You’ll pause for a picnic lunch on a quiet beach before enjoying time to explore the island’s tracks or simply relax in its natural beauty. The return paddle takes you back across the harbour with unforgettable views and a sense of connection to Christchurch’s coastal heritage.
