Supported Freedom Walking at Abel Tasman National Park

This three-day journey along the Abel Tasman Coast Track is designed for those who love the freedom of independent hiking with the comfort of expert support. Wander at your own pace through golden beaches, lush forest, and scenic lookouts while your guide handles logistics, meals, and campsite transfers. Each morning and evening, reconnect with your guide for delicious meals, track tips, and a relaxed, hosted camp experience.

You’ll receive a detailed map, packed lunch, snacks, and a warm welcome at your next beachside campsite—complete with tents, comfortable queen mattresses, and a well-earned dinner. From Totaranui or Awaroa to Mārahau, every step reveals more of this iconic Great Walk. With no heavy pack and no stress, you can simply soak up the serenity and beauty of the Abel Tasman.

Making Memories on the Classic Three Day Coastal Adventure

Your guide takes care of all logistics so you can fully enjoy the track’s highlights. From morning briefings and packed lunches to pre-dinner drinks by the beach, every detail is thoughtfully managed. You’ll feel refreshed and energised knowing that your focus can stay on the beauty around you.

Each evening, your campsite moves with you along the coast, ensuring you experience new scenery each day. Wake to the sound of native birds, stroll along soft sand, and watch the sun sink behind the Abel Tasman coastline. With flexible departures and all equipment provided, this is a classic New Zealand walking experience designed for every kind of explorer.

  • Check-in time: 8:15 am
  • Walking Time: Approximately 4-6 hours

AGE INFORMATION

  • Minimum Age: 6 years
  • Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult on a 1:1 ratio

  • More than 14 days before departure: 10% admin/cancellation fee, plus any accommodation charges applies**
  • Between 7 and 14 days of departure: 50% refund**
  • Within 7 days of departure: No refund
  • No-shows: Full payment charged, no refunds

Risk Disclosure:

In any outdoor adventure activity, participants are exposed to variations in weather conditions and therefore there is an element of risk involved. Risks in undertaking this water-based activity include but are not limited to; Personal Injury (sea sickness, heat stroke, hypothermia, drowning) and Property Damage. Abel Tasman Kayaks mitigate this risk through thorough preparation and adherence to a detailed Risk Identification and Management System. This includes providing you with the necessary information, training and safety equipment to participate in our activities. You are personally responsible for listening to our directions, adhering to our advice, and making responsible decisions to keep yourself safe. Additionally, we reserve the right to modify, alter or cancel activities at any given time if we feel your safety, or the safety of others may be compromised.

Day Walking Essentials:

  • Personal water bottle
  • Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent
  • Swimwear and towel
  • Warm top (wool or fleece), windproof jacket
  • Comfortable walking clothes and a change of clothes
  • Camera
  • Any personal medication

Evening & Personal Items:

  • Long pants, t-shirt, warm layer (wool or fleece)
  • Trainers and socks
  • Rainproof jacket
  • Toiletries
  • Torch or headlamp
  • Sleeping bag (optional—we can supply one)

Day One

Lunch: Freshly baked roll from Abel Tasman Kayaks, filled with seasonal local produce.
Dinner: Hearty chickpea curry served with rice, followed by rich chocolate brownie for dessert.

Day Two

Breakfast: Choice of cooked breakfast or muesli with yoghurt and fresh fruit.
Lunch: Build-your-own wraps with a selection of tasty fillings.
Dinner: Spiced bean nachos topped with sour cream, finished off with a slice of cake.

Day Three

Breakfast: Toasted English muffins or muesli served with yoghurt and fruit.
Lunch: Light and satisfying Mediterranean pasta to round off the journey.
