Day 1Auckland - Taupo

We depart Auckland and drive into the rural heart of the North Island before stopping at Rosenvale in the countryside near Te Awamutu to lunch with Penny Diprose.

We head for Taupo in the mid afternoon, stopping to admire the Huka Falls along the way. There's time to stroll the lakefront and enjoy the views before dining in our lakeside hotel this evening.

Stay: 1 night Millennium Hotel & Resort Manuels

Boasting a spellbinding lake edge location, this welcoming Taupo Hotel and Resort presents you with uninterrupted views of the magnificent lake and mountains from guest rooms, restaurants and bar areas.

Day 2Taupo - Wellington

This morning after breakfast we head south around the shores of Lake Taupo to Turangi and down the Desert Road with views of Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngauruhoe. Continuing to Taihape, we stop for lunch near Hunterville.

We head down the coast, with views out to Kapiti Island, to reach Wellington in the late afternoon. We check into the five star downtown hotel, the Bolton, for two nights and dine in the hotel's restaurant this evening.

Day 3Wellington sightseeing - World of WearableArt Awards Show

We visit Te Papa Museum, tour to Oriental Bay, drive up Mt Victoria then take the Cable Car for the city and harbour views. There's time for checking out the shops and galleries too. In the Ohariu Valley we lunch with Fee Weaver at Pepped Warbeck garden.

We dine at Dockside restaurant on the waterfront a few steps away from the TSB Arena where we attend the 7.30pm performance of the World of WearableArt Awards Show. Your Platinum ticket to the show includes a copy of the WOW Souvenir Programme. Sit back and enjoy the magic.

Day 4Wellington - Napier

We drive over the Remutaka Range to Greytown where boutique shops line the main street. Travel north up the Wairarapa passing the small towns of Norsewood and Waipukurau.

At Gwavas in Tikokino, Hawkes Bay we lunch with Phyllida and Stuart Gibson. Tour this historic homestead and hear their stories of 150 years of family history. Then stroll with Stuart in the nine hectare woodland garden at its springtime best. We continue to Napier and stay two nights at Scenic Te Pania Hotel, dining in this evening.

  • Lunch at historic Gwavas Homestead, the beautiful garden is yours to roam

Stay 2 nights Scenic Hotel Te Pania

Another great location, but only the best will do! Just a short walk from the heart of the Art Deco precinct, Te Pania is modern, has everything you need right at hand and is our favourite place to stay in town.

What we love about Te Pania - You can’t beat those Pacific views, if you’re an early bird, watch the sunrise over the ocean from your room.

Day 5Driving the Art Deco Trail in Hawkes Bay

This morning a specialist Art Deco guide boards our coach to tell the stories of the 1931 earthquake and Napier's rebuild as we drive leisurely through the Art Deco suburbs and stop at the classic National Tobacco Company building. 

We wine taste and lunch at Church Road Winery Restaurant. We drive through the landscape of orchards and vineyards, touring to Hastings and Havelock North and return along the picturesque Tukituki Road to Clive and Te Awanga. We dine in our hotel this evening.

Day 6Napier - Auckland

We leave Napier after breakfast driving over the ranges to Taupo and on to Tamahere.

Our farewell lunch is hosted by Stephen and Jeanette Williams at Moondance Manor sitting amid beautiful gardens in Tamahere beside the Waikato River. We arrive home in Auckland in the early evening.

Pricing: Single share price is base on one person in a single room. Twin share price is based on 2 people sharing one room.

  • Please note, payments made by credit card will incur an additional merchant fee of 2%.

Cancellations and amendments

Cancellation fees depend on when we receive notice of your cancellation:

  • The 20% deposit is not refundable and not transferable.
  • Bookings cancelled between 59 days and 45 days incur 50% of tour cost.
  • Bookings cancelled between 44 days and 31 days incur 75% of tour cost.
  • Bookings cancelled within 30 days or less of tour departure incur 100% of tour cost.
  • No refunds will be made after travel has commenced.
