Overview
Combine the excitement of flying in a helicopter with the exhilaration of walking on Fox Glacier on the fly-in, fly-out Fox Glacier Helihike. The helicopter flight allows you to access and discover a part of the glacier where there are often amazing ice caves and arches produced by the tremendous forces produced by the glacier.
After being fitted out with sturdy leather boots and other gear, you get on the helicopter for your first flight over the pinnacles of the lower glacier. Here, the ice is in continuous movement. You then circle the upper glacier and Victoria Falls prior to landing. Your landing place on the ice is an inaccessible and extraordinarily stunning part of the glacier. At this point, your guide equips you with crampons, specifically designed for these ice conditions and you follow the ice steps cut by your guide as you investigate the incredible formations and ice caves which are only viewed here.
Each departure on the Fox Glacier Helihike is a true journey of discovery. There are so many shifting features that when on the ice the guides always discover something new. Depending on weather conditions time on the ice is about 2.5 hours.
Please note that this is a natural and ever changing environment. Ice features change constantly and no guarantee can be given that specific features will be seen.
