The remote nature reserve of Mou Waho Island boasts of a lake in an island surrounded by a lake (Wanaka) located on an island (South Island) in an ocean. This Mou Waho Island Cruise & Nature Walk takes you there after a cruise on the glass-like waters of Lake Wanaka in New Zealand aboard a big luxury boat.
A predator-free reserve managed by the Department of Conservation, Mou Waho Island supports a population of native New Zealand birds that have gone extinct in the mainland, such as the flightless buff weka that were no longer seen in the mainland since 1920. Witness first-hand the conservation efforts that have revived other species such as the native falcon and the wood pigeon.
Included in this tour is a one-hour bush walk led by a guide who will take you right at the of the island to see the lake (of the island within a lake within an island fame) and stunning mountain and lake scenery in every direction. Listen as the guide provides informative commentary on the island’s history and ecology.
Join our luxury 16m catamaran for a rejuvenating cruise back to the township while enjoying morning tea aboard the boat.
