The Kawarau Gorge Trail Blazer is a full-day self-guided e-bike experience through Central Otago, with departure options from Queenstown, Arrowtown, Gibbston and Cromwell. Ride approximately 40 km between Gibbston and Cromwell on a Grade 2–3 intermediate trail, allowing around 3–5 hours of riding. Premium e-bike hire, MIPS helmet, trail equipment, bike fitting, briefing and scheduled shuttle transport are included according to the departure option you select.

This is a rewarding but committed ride through remote gorge country, with narrow sections, suspension bridges, gravel riding and exposed terrain. It is best suited to riders with previous cycling experience, confident bike handling and a good level of fitness.

Ride deep into the Kawarau Gorge

The Kawarau Gorge Trail links the wine regions of Gibbston and Bannockburn, following the Kawarau River through some of Central Otago’s most dramatic cycling terrain. From Gibbston, the trail heads beneath Nevis Bluff and into the gorge, where steep rock faces, turquoise river water and historic gold-mining landscapes create a striking backdrop.

Purpose-built sections of trail carry riders through remote terrain, over suspension bridges and along compacted gravel sections high above the river. As you approach Bannockburn, the landscape opens into vineyard country around Felton Road, with possible stops for refreshments or food depending on your timing. The final section continues through Bannockburn and towards Cromwell, where the ride finishes.
