Fairlie Heritage Museum is a must-visit for history buffs. Housed in the former post office, it showcases the area's rich history in agriculture, transportation, and tourism. Exhibits feature vintage farm machinery, photos, displays on railway heritage, settlers, Maori history, and the environment.

Fairlie Railway Station, restored to its former glory, is a highlight of the Fairlie Heritage Museum. Dating back to 1884, it serves as a testament to the role railways played in the town's development. Open 7 days a week from 10 am to 4 pm, the museum is staffed by volunteers who are passionate about preserving and sharing the town's history with visitors.

The town of Fairlie itself has a rich history. Established in the 1850s, it was a stopover for travellers heading inland from Timaru. The railway brought a boost to the economy. Visitors can explore the town's past by visiting the Fairlie Heritage Museum or taking a stroll to see historic buildings that have been preserved.

Perched atop Mount Michael and a short drive from Fairlie, the Farm Barn Café is a must-visit destination in New Zealand. Operated by a local mother-daughter duo, Jan and Ellie, since 2015, the café has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a rural barn vibe, featuring high ceilings with exposed wooden beams and a large inviting fireplace area with comfy couches.

The café serves delicious homemade food and coffee made with locally-sourced ingredients. Everything is prepared fresh on-site, and visitors can enjoy stunning views of Fairlie and the Mackenzie Country. Ellie takes pride in serving affordable, honest, and quality food that is both filling and delicious.

Farm Barn Café is renowned for its friendly, family-friendly atmosphere and cute animals, including Gerty the goat, Daisy the deer, and friendly sheep. It also has a gift shop with handpicked local treasures, indoor/outdoor seating, free Wi-Fi, and ample parking. An ideal spot to to relax and take a break while touring or to escape the city to a unique and relaxing atmosphere.
