Your clothing should match the time of year you’re visiting. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, and always bring a warm jacket. During winter months (June, July, August), wet weather gear and a rain jacket are recommended.

Tours depart from The Sands Hotel, State Highway 12, Omapere, which is about 4 km from Opononi. We offer a free pickup service from other local accommodations. Pickup times are 5:30 PM (September–April) and 4:30 PM (April–September).

This tour may be too long for children under 5 years old, based on past experiences.

Although Kiwi sightings and sounds have been enjoyed on previous tours, we cannot guarantee this experience.

Tours proceed in the rain unless there are extremely windy conditions, in which case the tour would be cancelled for safety.

Meals are not included in the tour price, and eating during the tour is not allowed. You can arrange an early meal directly with The Sands Hotel before the tour by notifying them of your plans to join the Footprints Waipoua Twilight Encounter.

Opononi and Omapere are approximately a one-hour drive from the Bay of Islands or Paihia. Self-driving is the only transportation option available.

No, we do not offer pickup services from Paihia.
